After a long day of touring around Edinburgh, and what seemed like an even longer time trying to find a restaurant with decent reviews, good prices, and without a line out the door, we wound up at the Thai Orchid in Old Town. This restaurant did not disappoint. We were very pleased with our selections of wine, entrees, and even more so with our choice of dessert.
The flavors in the Pad King Tow-Hu and the Pad Thai were on-point. The taste of the banana fritters dessert was delectable. Getting the food as a rake-out order would have also been a nice option (given how exhausted we were from the day); though, we likely would not have ordered the dessert and would have missed out on something really special. -

We stopped here because we were craving some Thai food. Boy, was this place a HUGE letdown. We ordered two orders of Pad See Ew. On the menu, this dish is listed under the vegetarian dishes. We added beef to one dish and chicken to the other. The portions were on the smaller side. The biggest disappointment was there was no flavor! It's like they forgot to add sauce or something. Also, the beef was super tough. At closer examination, it looked like they steamed the beef and just threw it in the dish. There was absolutely no flavor to the beef.
The mango and sweet rice was decent. We left this place still hungry and disappointment. I don't understand why this place had such high reviews. Maybe they don't specialize in Pad See Ew? I wouldn't come back here. -

Service was pretty decent.
Had pad se ew. Small portion and was almost like plain pasta. No seasoning.
What was unusual here is their pad Thai comes with no meat.
After asking for chicken server asks confirms they can do for an extra pound charge. Seems reasonable just expected meat with pad se ew.
Chicken was dry. Appetizer of chicken skewers was ok best part was the pretty presentation -

It was nice to see a Thai restaurant in the Old Town tourist area near the castle in Edinburgh. The restaurant is tiny, but the prices are reasonable and the food is good. We had some service issues, but overall an enjoyable experience. Nice Decour.

Best red curry I've ever had!
Go to Thai Orchid for a quiet, tasty meal of scallops and red curry. I've been living in Edinburgh for a few months and this restaurant might be the best place I've tried so far. It doesn't have the most exciting ambience, but you'll get a great meal on the royal mile for a price that won't break the bank.
If you're here on vacation, you may have noticed that Edinburgh restaurants love to cater to tourists by displaying all that Scottish food has to offer. That's well and good, but, after a couple of days, all that heavy, rather unhealthy food can leave you feeling bloated and sluggish. Come to Thai Orchid for a tasty change of pace and work some protein and vegetables into your diet.
Cherry on top: When you ask for the check, the waitress brings you a yummy piece of chocolate with crunchy orange bits.
